They lived not far from where the road is now.

There were Buckminsters or their descendants in town as late as the 1940s. The street was first created as a private road in 1886 and became a town road in 1888.

- KenKen Lisshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16578998494463338017noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2958235941877138879.post-36493912501352250902024-02-12T11:39:51.914-05:002024-02-12T11:39:51.914-05:00Mr. Liss:

I’ve wondered about Brookline street names, many of which share names with people who lived in the area long ago, but it’s not simple to learn more about them. Do you know if there is any resource on the origins of Brookline street names?

Sincerely,
Dan Jacobson
(306 Buckminster Road; probably not named for a Bostonian, but I don’t really know!)
djacobson22@yahoo.com
Dan Jacobsonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2958235941877138879.post-20222213889081810862024-01-27T16:40:44.524-05:002024-01-27T16:40:44.524-05:00What a fascinating story, Thanks! Saulnier was the care taker for gardens at the Gillette mansion. He lived at the mansion with his wife, Albina. He and his wife were treated very well by the Gillette family. Their first child (my grandfather) was born while they were living at the estate. They named him Linus Gillette. They lived at the estate until 1913 when King Camp Gillette sold the home and moved to California. The Gillette family gifted my great grandfather a very nice water color painting of the Gillette Mansion gardens. I have that painting in my home. My mother (one of Linus Gillette's children) is currently researching her family's history. If you have any information about the Saulnier family in Brookline or at the estate we would love to see it.
